It’s a refreshing change these days to phone a company in search of a quotation and instead find yourself talking to someone who is very obviously knowledgable and passionate about their line of business. Tony Sallis is just such an individual. I first contacted Coherent Systems to enquire about a factory upgrade to the motor for a Mk I Oracle Delphi, but our conversation flew off on several interesting tangents and it became apparent that audio equipment and music is much more than just Tony’s day job. After our chat, Tony promptly emailed me with a set of options for my motor upgrade, including the use of some perfectly serviceable parts that had previously been removed from other Delphis (a Mk III and a Mk V) during their upgrades. A deal was struck for what I consider a very reasonable price, and the required parts arrived the next day, just as Tony had described them, and extremely well packed. So far, so good; 10/10 for customer service, but the story doesn’t end there. How many other hifi specialists are happy to field dumb questions via telephone in the evening, a couple of hours after closing time? And how many are happy to sit on the end of a phone with a power supply and multimeter, describing the pinout to a perplexed customer? Not many, I’m guessing. However Tony is just such a specialist, and well worth seeking out. The kind of kit Coherent Systems deal in is not cheap, but whether you’re looking to spend a considerable sum on upgrades, or whether you’re simply looking for some basic maintenance essentials and advice, you’ll be greeted by the same combination of dedication, enthusiasm, and professionalism.
