Kirmuss Audio
Kirmuss Audio are not just the common or garden ultrasonic cleaners have been around for a long time. Ultrasonic cleaning machines alone do not clean into the grooves of records as vinyl in general repels water.
Why Use an Ultrasonic Cleaner
Our restoration system involves a process. As to the ultrasonic generator itself, there are many reasons for using our 35 KHz Ultrasonic driver. Kirmuss Audio have some facts. One would say where higher the frequency, the smaller the bubbles, smaller the bubbles, the better cleaning. Records are fragile and are not either metal (where 25 KHz reigns) or a medical instrument (where 80, 90, 125 KHz is recommended.) Higher the frequency over 35 KHz, greater the risk of damage. We have determined where 35 kHz is the sweet spot.
Kirmuss Audio have found that under pressure of continuous vibration by the ultrasonic generator at the bottom of the tank: bubbles rise and stretch and compress at a fast rate. Once they reach a certain size, as determined by the frequency and strength of the sound waves produced, the bubbles lose structural integrity and collapse violently. When these implosions happen near a surface, object, the bubbles emit high-powered streams of plasma that travel at more than 500 miles per hour and collide with, agitate and remove even very tiny particles and substances from that surface.
Also Kirmuss Audio have found an ultrasonic that uses simply distilled water or a liquid in the tank with some cleaning solution added in the process does not see complete cleaning action down to the grooves, as vinyl repels water. Our process sees a surfactant brushed onto the record over several applications. Using a surfactant attracts the wave to work itself into the groove of the record.
In our ultrasonic cleaning machine with the correct frequency and location of the emitting transducers and with correct record spacing, our unique process removes contaminants from the record’s surface and grooves. Unlike homemade systems using 25 KHz which cannot successfully clean deep into the grooves of a record, our 35 KHz ultrasonic generator is quieter and with proper power and distribution, we may even restore shellacked or glass records as a result with our design. Our record spacing has been designed so as to provide the desired effect cleaning 4 records simultaneously and well. Kirmuss Audio discovered that any more records placed in our 6 litre tank and spaced closer would see the cavitation effect nulled and not being able to clean to the record’s wax mark. So a process has been developed with a surfactant being brushed in over multiple 5 minute cycles.
